Noted lyricist lands in trouble

Dammalapati Srinivas Case now in Supreme Court

Jonnavittala Rama Lingeswara Rao noted lyricist and poet found himself in trouble when police slapped case against him under the prevention of Atrocities Scheduled castes and Scheduled Tribes act.

He landed in trouble when Battula Ram, State President of Telangana Mala Welfare Association approached Nampally Police Station on May 21 and filed a complaint against him alleging the song penned and sung by him insulted the SCs and STs promoting untouchability.

Jonnavittala wrote a song supporting untouchability practiced by Brahmins and asked the community to implement it again in the wake of COVID 19. He released the song in the you tube channel Chamiraju News.

Telangana police after seeking the legal opinion, decided to book case on Jonnavittala under section 3 (1) of Prevention of Atrocities Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Act and 7 (1)(d) Prevention of Civil Rights Act (prevents any person from exercising any right accruing to him by reason of the abolition of “untouchability” under article 17 of the Constitution)

Ram Prasad said Jonnavittala sang he song on March 23 in a live show on TV9 and the same was released on April 14 deliberately on Ambedkar Jayanthi. He demanded the immediate arrest of Jonnavittala and also an unconditional apology from him.
