In a shocking development, researchers sounded a warning bells to Visakapatnam even as AP CM Jagan Mohan Reddy and the ruling YSRCP government is planning to make Vizag as one of the capital.
University of Hyderabad (UoH) researchers found a major fault line along the coast in the Krishna-Godavari basin in Andhra Pradesh and this could trigger huge tsunamis and earthquakes.
They said the fault line was an active one and will soon become active once again. Once the fault line turns active, it will increase the threat levels of earthquakes and Tsunamis to Visakhapatnam. The long fracture line is viewed as the major coastal hazard in the North Andhra Pradesh.
UoH has taken this research along with the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC) and the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO). The fault line’s major activity is focused in the vicinity of Visakhapatnam.
